Bargarh bio-ethanol refinery project is likely to commence operations by October 2023. The project has been delayed owing to Covid 19 pandemic. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is establishing its second generation (2G) ethanol bio-refinery in Boulsingha village in Bargarh district in Odisha at an investment of Rs 16.07 billion. The proposed production capacity of this plant is 100 kl per day of 2G ethanol. The bio-refinery will have a capacity to produce 30 million litres of the fuel grade ethanol annually using domestic agro based lingo-cellulosic feedstock, i.e. rice straw shall be the design feedstock while maize stalk will be the check case, and the ethanol produced from the plant will be blended with petrol.
