Commercial operations are expected to begin at the Shivamogga domestic airport from August 2023, as the civil works at the airport are near completion. Initially, IndiGo will operate its services between Shivamogga and Bengaluru. The project involves the development of a regional greenfield airport near Sogane village in the Shimoga district of Karnataka, on an area of 662.38 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 3.84 billion.
