Runway recarpeting work completed at Calicut International Airport

The recarpeting work of the 2.86 km long runway at Calicut International Airport has been completed on June 2, 2023.The work started on January 27, 2023 and has been completed in a recorded time of 120 days. The recarpeting work of any runway of length 2.5 km requires about 8 to 9 months on an average but the work at the Calicut airport has been completed prior to the scheduled date setting a milestone for the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The overall estimated cost of the project was Rs 0.6 billion which includes the runway recarpeting work along with milling, providing glass fiber reinforcement grid, fixing of runway center lights and touch-down zone lights. The project mainly focused on strengthening the safety standards of the airport with this development.
