The year 2022-23 saw capacity addition of 16,854 MW, which was lower than the 20,330 MW added in 2021-22. Renewables
accounted for 15,274 MW of capacity addition in 2022-2023, followed by thermal (1,460 MW) and hydro (120 MW).
Power generation recorded a compound annual growth rate of 6 per cent, increasing from 962 BUs in 2013-14 to 1,618 BUs in 2022-23. Thermal generation accounted for 77 per cent of the total power generation, while renewables accounted for 23 per cent in 2022-23.
