The new terminal building was inaugurated on May 26, 2023 at Chakeri airport in Kanpur. The project involved the development of a new civil enclave at Kanpur Air Force Base in Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 1.68 billion. The new terminal building is built in area of 6,243 square meter and is sixteen times bigger compared to the existing terminal. During peak hours, it is equipped to handle 400 passengers. It also has various sustainability features including LED lighting, sewage treatment plant, solar power plant with 100-kilowatt power capacity, low heat gains double glazing unit, rainwater harvesting, and double insulated roofing systems, among others.
