The Sabarimala greenfield airport project in Kottayam district of Kerala received clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on April 17, 2023. The project will be developed on 2,250 acres of land near the Sabarimala temple by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation in public-private partnership mode. The overall cost of the project is estimated at Rs 40 billion. The airport, which will have a runway length of at least 3.5 km on the 8/26 alignment, is expected to boost air travel connectivity in the city and facilitate a large number of devotees who travel to temples in the city.
