NTPC achieves its first overseas capacity addition

NTPC Limited has marked its first overseas capacity addition, beginning with Bangladesh. The group has added Unit-1 of 660 MW capacity at the 1,320 MW (2×660 MW) Maitree super thermal power plant located in Rampal, Mongla, Bagerhat, Bangladesh. With this new addition, the installed capacity of NTPC group has reached 72,304 MW. The project was executed in collaboration with the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Private Limited, a foreign joint venture (JV) company of NTPC. In another development, NTPC has signed a supplementary JV agreement with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited for developing nuclear power projects. Initially, the JV company will develop two pressurised heavy-water reactor projects – the 2×700 MW Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Power Project and the 4×700 MW Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project – which were identified as a part of fleet mode nuclear projects.
