Recently, trial run commenced on Kavi Subhas-Hemanta Mukherjee stretch of the Kolkata Metro Expansion Project.
The project involves expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 119.29 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to BBD Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Biman Bandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
