The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved state water action plans for 6,527 projects, entailing an investment of Rs 1,296.36 billion, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, as of March 2023. Through these projects, 14.8 million new tap connections and 3.34 million new sewer connections are planned to be provided. The government aims to make 500 select cities water secure and provide functional water tap connections to all households under AMRUT 2.0. Of the 6,527 projects approved so far, DPRs have been approved by states/UTs for 2,058 projects worth Rs 364.82 billion, and notices inviting tenders have been issued for 1,025 projects worth Rs 191.58 billion. Works have been awarded for 608 projects worth Rs 54.23 billion and 29 projects worth Rs 1.03 billion have been completed.
