Indian Railways (IR) has completed 100 per cent electrification of the railway network in Haryana. Haryana’s existing broad-gauge network stands at 1,701 route kilometre. The electrification will help in saving line haul costs (about 2.5 times lower), enable heavier haulage capacity, increase sectional capacity, reduce operations and maintenance costs of the electric locomotives, become an energy efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation, and reduce the dependence on imported crude oil, thereby saving foreign exchange.
