CMWSSB to install sensors in water treatment and pumping facilities

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) will install sensors in all water treatment and pumping facilities for real-time water level and distribution monitoring. The sensors at water filling points, treatment plants and distribution will also help in checking leaks and pilferage, besides providing data on inflow and outflow. In sewage pumping stations, the sensors will help in the automation of pumping once the water reaches a certain level. This will help rectify the repairs and blocks immediately, and monitor the functioning of facilities 24×7. To keep a check on water availability, the Water Resources Department will provide data on the water level recorders installed at city reservoirs. The civic authorities have also started a revamped monitoring and control centre for integrated monitoring of various operations of water and sewer infrastructure in the city.
