Preliminary works have been completed for Category I operation of the instrument landing system (ILS) at the Jayprakash Narayan International airport in Patna, Bihar. Category I operations are for precision approach and landing of flights to improve visibility. As of April 13, 2023, the Airport Environment Management Committee informed airport authorities to get approval for the installation of the new ILS. The new system will increase the landing capacity of aircraft on the runway and minimise flight cancellations.
