As per the orders of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the airport operators have to install 3D computed tomography X-ray (CTX) and full body scanners (FBS) by the end of 2023. The airports handling around 5 million and more passengers have been ordered to install CTX for cabin bag checks while hypersensitive airports handling around 0.1 billion or more passengers have been ordered to install FBS. This will improve the fast functioning of the airports since passengers will not be required to keep personal electronic devices, chargers, liquids, etc. in separate trays which are required in the case of 2D X-ray scanners. FBS will be able to detect non-metallic threat objects like explosives and drugs which can be covered in the body. Both technologies will improve the security of the airports as well.
