95 per cent of Rithala STP’s sewage to get treated, Sonia Vihar WTP’s capacity to increase

DJB has been urged by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to ensure 95 per cent of the sewage coming to Rithala’s STP is treated before being discharged into Yamuna. Due to the absence of permission to translocate 500 trees on the project, there has been a delay in upgrading the STP. The upgradation of the STP of Rithala phase I was initially planned to be completed by December 2021. It is being funded by the central government under the Yamuna Action Plan-III. Additionally, the production of water at the Sonia Vihar WTP is to be increased as per the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) upon its inspection. Currently, the plant has a production capacity of 142 million gallons per day (mgd) and will be upgraded by an additional 5 mgd.
