Flight operations begin at Chennai’s new integrated terminal

Arrival and departure flight operations have started at the new integrated terminal building (T-2) of the Chennai airport on April 25, 2023. The arrival of the first flight US-Bangla Airline BS205/206 was witnessed at T2. The terminal had an overall investment of Rs 24.37 billion and was inaugurated on April 8, 2023. This terminal will increase the airport’s capacity from 23 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 30 mppa. Additionally, advancements would be undertaken at T2 by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) before shifting all international flights by the end of May 2023. The addition of more facilities like flight information boards, immigration and check-in counters, aerobridges, signage etc. are asked to be included by various airlines before shifting of the flights. Members of the airline operators committee participated in the new terminal’s walk-through and their 100-point suggestions were noted and submitted to AAI. They have raised the need for five aerobridges and adequate seating for passengers near boarding gates, among other concerns.
