The Tamil Nadu government has commenced the acquisition of 10.72 acres of land for the Vellore airport upgradation project. The project involves the development of Vellore airport in Tamil Nadu under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN-2. The airport was under scrutiny, as the viability of flight operations from Chennai to Bengaluru or Tirupati in both directions, crossing Vellore, was being evaluated. This led to a delay of many years, and the Ministry of State for Road Transport, Highways, along with MoCA, requested the state government to provide the land for development in October 2022.
