Karnataka’s Shivamogga airport gets inaugurated

Shivamogga airport was inaugurated on February 27, 2023 as Karna­ta­ka’s newest airport. It has been built at a cost of Rs 4.5 billion, with a capa­city of 300 passengers per hour. Constructed under the central government’s UdeDeshKaAamNagrik (UDAN) scheme, the airport will allow air connectivity in the central Karnataka region. The airport would be operated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) while Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited will manage it. Com­m­ercial operations are expected to start in March 2023. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has given permission for the operation of commercial flights and private aircraft from the airport.
