In a bid to avoid train collisions, IR has decided to install Kavach on various routes of North Eastern Railway (NER). With the technology in place, all activities of loco pilots, including the use of brakes, horns and throttle handles, will be monitored. To commence the installation, the Railway Board has sanctioned Rs 4.67 billion for the Gorakhpur-Barabanki route. An allotment of Rs 70 million has been proposed in the 2023-24 budget for this. Ten NER routes covering a distance of 1,440 km have been identified for the installation of Kavach technology.
