IR places order for 84,000 wagons

IR has reportedly placed its highest ever order for about 84,000 wagons in 2023. This was done with the aim of increasing the share of railways in freight transportation from about 27 per cent to 45 per cent by 2030. Multiple types of goods that are currently transported by road can also be moved via rail, especially consumer goods, which can be easily sent from one city to another in containers. The four requirements for increasing the freight share are track availability, wagon and rake availability, terminal availability, and freight schemes.
