IR achieved a significant milestone in railway electrification on February 21, 2023. With the completion of electrification of the Subhagpur-Pachperwa broad gauge route of NER, IR has successfully completed the electrification of all broad gauge routes in Uttar Pradesh. It is expected that this will improve rail connectivity as well as the speed of trains in the region. IR has completed the electrification of broad gauge routes in six zonal railways, namely, East Coast Railway, North Central Railway, NER, Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway and West Central Railway.
