Adani Total Private Limited will receive its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo at the Dhamra terminal on India’s east coast in April 2023, and expects to start commercial operations 30-45 days after receiving the shipment. The start-up of the 5 mtpa LNG import terminal, delayed from September 2021, is crucial to India’s plan of boosting natural gas use in the country’s energy mix to 15 per cent from about 6 per cent currently. Adani Total expects to receive 2.2 mt of LNG at Dhamra between now and March 2024. It has a 20-year take-or-pay contract for providing regasification services to Indian Oil Corporation Limited for 3 mtpa of LNG, and to government-run gas distributor GAIL (India) Limited for 1.5 mtpa.
