Economic Survey highlights India progressively becoming a favoured destination for investment in renewables

As per the government’s Economic Survey 2022-23, the total installed power capacity in the country stood at 482.2 GW as of March 31, 2022. The share of renewables is growing at a fast pace. As of September 30, 2022, the government has sanctioned the entire target capacity of 40 GW for the development of 59 solar parks in 16 states. Indian Railways (IR) has reoriented its energy demand to facilitate greater use of renewable so­ur­ces. The survey highlighted that India is progressively becoming a favoured destination for investment in renewables. The country has scaled up its efforts towards mobilising private capital in climate action, including throu­gh sovereign green bonds, for which a framework has been issued.
