South Western Railway (SWR) has signed an agreement with Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) for the transfer of 157 acres of land for the Bengaluru suburban rail project (Bengaluru commuter rail system). The project involves the development of a 148.17 km long suburban network in Bengaluru city. It is being implemented by K-RIDE in the following four corridors – Corridor 1: Bengaluru City to Yelahanka to Devanahalli + airport link route; Corridor 2: Baiyyappanahalli to Yeshwantpur to Chikbanavar route; Corridor 3: Kengeri to Bengaluru City to Whitefield route; and Corridor 4: Heelalige to Yelahanka to Rajanakunte route. The project is likely to be completed in six years.
