Punjab sanctions Rs 605 million for solar power energy system

The Punjab government has sanctioned Rs 605 million to install solar power energy systems for rural piped water supply schemes in the state, thus aiming to reduce electricity expenditure by Rs 80 million-Rs 90 million per year. Under this project, solar power energy plants, based on net metering, will be installed at 970 rural water supply schemes, covering 1,508 villages with a cumulative capacity of 8.698 MW. The project aims to ensure the financial sustainability as well as the successful operation and management of rural water supply schemes by gram panchayat water supply committees, by reducing the burden of electricity charges.
