The Executive Committee (EC) of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved 12 projects entailing an estimated investment of more than Rs 27 billion for developing sewerage infrastructure in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. As part of the projects, a special focus was laid on the tributaries of the Ganga river. This includes a project for the rejuvenation of the Adi river in Kolkata, a tributary of the Ganga, which involves the construction of three sewage treatment plants (STPs) with capacities of 10 million litres per day (mld), 11.6 mld and 3.5 mld respectively at an estimated cost of Rs 6.53 billion.
