MoP notifies Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2022

The MoP has notified the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2022. The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed by the Rajya Sa­bha on December 12, 2022, and received the President’s app­roval on December 19, 2022. The amendment to the Energy Conser­vation Act, 2001 aims to empower the central government to specify a carbon credit trading scheme. The designated consumers may be required to meet a proportion of their energy needs through non-fossil sources. The Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code will also apply to office and residential buildings with a connected load of 100 kW or above. Failure to comply with the standards will be punishable with a penalty of up to Rs 1 million.
