Arnala, the first of eight anti-submarine warfare (ASW) shallow water craft (SWC), was launched on December 20, 2022 in Chennai. The ship was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) for the Indian Navy. The 77.6 metre ASW SWC ships have a displacement of 900 tonnes with a maximum speed of 25 knots and an endurance of 1,800 nautical miles. The Ministry of Defence and GRSE, Kolkata, signed a contract for the construction of eight ASW SWC ships in April 2019.
