IR crosses 1,000 mt mark in freight loading

In an important development, Indian Railways (IR) has achieved a major milestone in freight transportation by crossing the 1,000 million tonnes (mt) mark in 2022-23. As of December 6, 2022, IR has loaded 1,002 mt of freight. This is a stellar performance, with the comparable milestone in 2021-22 being achieved on December 24, 2021. As of December 6, 2021, IR had achieved a freight loading of 926.4 mt. During 2022-23, IR registered an incremental loading of 76.3 mt at a growth rate of 8.25 per cent. In terms of earnings, on December 6, 2022 IR’s freight revenues stood at Rs. 1,085.93 billion as compared to Rs. 935.32 billion during the corresponding period in 2021-22, registering an improvement of 16.10 per cent.
