The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) inaugurated multiple projects for the development of inland waterways and the marine sector in the Konkan region of Goa and Mangaluru on October 13, 2022. It also laid the foundation stone for the development of international and domestic cruise terminals at Mormugao port with an investment of Rs 1.23 billion. Besides, the foundation stone was laid for multiple development projects at Mormugao port, which include the development of international and domestic cruise terminals, roll on-roll off (ro-ro), passenger ro-ro and other allied facilities. The MoPSW has also launched a solar-electric hybrid high speed ferry and a floating jetty project at Panaji. The three jetties commissioned were built at a project cost of Rs 960 million. The jetties are solid concrete structures that float on water, are easy to install and have minimal environmental impact. The solar-electric hybrid high speed ferry project is funded by the Goa government at a cost of over Rs 390 million and with a carrying capacity of 60 passengers.
