IR inaugurates first aluminium freight rake

India’s first aluminium freight rake 61 BOBRNALHSM1 has been inaugurated at the Bhubaneswar railway station. It has been designed and developed indigenously in collaboration with the Research Designs and Standards Organisation, Hindalco and Besco Wagon. The key features of the aluminium rake include fully lock bolted construction with no welding on superstructure, a tare that is 3.25 tonnes lighter than normal steel rakes, 180 tonne extra carrying capacity resulting in higher throughput per wagon and higher payload to tare ratio of 2.85.
