IR achieves 82 per cent electrification

In a notable development, IR has achieved the electrification of 1,223 route km (rkm) during 2022-23 (till October 2022). This is 36.64 per cent higher than the electrification done in the corresponding period last year (895 rkm). As of October 31, 2022, a total of 53,470 rkm of broad gauge network has been electrified, which is 82.08 per cent of the total broad gauge network. IR is planning to electrify its complete broad gauge network. This will result in better fuel energy usage, increased throughput, re­du­ced fuel expenditure and savings in foreign exchange.
