IR registers growth in freight loading for September 2022

Indian Railways (IR) has successfully recorded its best ever September monthly freight loading. The freight traffic in September 2022 stood at 115.80 mt, an incremental loading of 9.7 mt (9.15 per cent) over the corresponding period in 2021-22. With this, IR has had 25 straight months of best ever monthly freight loading since August 2022. IR has achieved an incremental loading of 6.8 mt in coal, followed by 1.2 mt in iron ore, 1.22 mt in other goods, 0.4 mt in cement and clinker, and 0.3 mt in fertilisers. Increase in automobile loading has been another highlight of the freight business in 2022-23. As of September 2022, 2,712 rakes have been loaded in 2022-23 as compared to 1,575 during the same period in the previous year, registering a growth of 72.2 per cent.
