DoT releases the Draft Indian Telecommunications Bill 2022 for public consultation

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has released the draft Indian Telecommunications Bill for public consultation. As per the draft bill, spectrum can be assigned through auction or administrative processes in the future, depending on requirements. The bill also has provisions for waiving the fees, charges and penalties of any company, if required. In addition, the draft bill has expanded the definition of telecommunication services, including OTT (over-the-top) communication services, satellite-based communication services, internet and broadband services, and in-flight and maritime connectivity services under its ambit. The bill has been put up for public consultation and stakeholders can send their comments by October 20, 2022.
