The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) granted safety clearance for the North-South corridor of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro rail project Phase I on September 17, 2022. The commercial operations are expected to commence by October 2022. However, the entire work is likely to be completed only by March 2023. The project involves development of a 40.03 km-long metro rail corridor connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, at an investment of Rs 125 billion.
