Under the draft Master Plan 2040 for Thiruvananthapuram city, a new airport has been proposed. It is planned to be built near the Outer Ring Road at the city’s border. The plan suggests acquiring land through land pooling. It also proposes building an integrated terminal for domestic and international services at the existing airport. The proposed airport marks a shift from the proposal under the Capital Region Development Programme-II for constructing a runway at sea parallel to Shanghumugham beach near the existing airport.
