Construction work on the Sultanpur-Varanasi Four Laning Highway Project (NH-56) is expected to be completed by December 2022. The project involves four laning of the Sultanpur-Varanasi section of NH-56 from km 134.7 (design chainage 134.7 km) to km 271.3 (design chainage 280.93 km) in Uttar Pradesh. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing the project under the National Highways Development Programme Phase IV on an engineering, procurement and construction basis at a cost of Rs 18.42 billion. The project is a part of the Varanasi-Lucknow four laning road project.
