Continuing the trend of increased freight loading, IR has recorded the highest ever July monthly freight loading in 2022-23. The freight loading for July 2022 stands at 122.14 mt, 8.25 per cent higher than the freight loading in the corresponding period last year. With this, IR has had 23 straight months of highest ever monthly freight loading. The cumulative freight loading from April 1, 2022 to July 31, 2022 stood at 501.53 mt as against 452.13 mt achieved in 2021-22, that is, an incremental loading of 49.4 mt, with a growth of 10.92 per cent over the same period last year. IR has achieved incremental loading of 11.54 mt in coal, followed by 1.22 mt in balance other goods, 0.56 mt each in cement and clinker and containers, and 0.47 mt in petroleum, oil and lubricants. Further, the freight business has witnessed an increase in automobile loading. As of July 2022, 1,698 rakes have been loaded in 2022-23, 71 per cent higher as compared to the rakes loaded in the corresponding period last year (994 rakes).
