IR to overhaul parcel policy

In a bid to increase the share of e-commerce revenues, IR is working on overhauling its parcel policy. At present, the policy includes ferrying of small goods such as home appliances on the parcel service of IR. This is being changed to allow movement of cell phones and sanitisers as parcels on the railway network. Further, objects of daily use such as alcohol-based sanitisers and other toiletries will be included in the regulations by specifying stringent packing and other safety conditions. In order to enable the transport of these goods, IR has examined the guidelines being followed by airlines, and has decided to formulate and adopt similar ones. These steps are in line with IR’s plan to diversify its sources of revenue.
