IR records best ever monthly freight loading in June 2022

Indian Railways (IR) recorded the best ever monthly freight loading of 125.5 million tonnes (mt) in June 2022. The incremental loading in the month of June was 12.72 mt, recording a growth of 11.28 per cent over the previous best June figures achieved in 2021. With this, IR has recorded 22 consecutive months of best ever freight loading. The growth has been fuelled by incremental loading of 13.19 mt in coal, followed by 1.68 mt in cement and clinker, 1.57 mt in other goods and 0.64 mt in foodgrains. The cumulative freight loading in the first quarter of the year (April 2022 to June 2022) stands at 379.4 mt, 12 per cent higher than the cumulative freight loading in the corresponding period in the previous year (339.3 mt). The freight net tonne km (NTKM) has increased from 63.3 billion in June 2021 to 75.8 billion in June 2022, registering a growth of 20 per cent. This is because, apart from the increase in freight loading, there has been an increase in freight leads by 7.4 per cent. The cumulative NTKM in the first three months has also increased by 19.8 per cent.
