The Deendayal Port Trust has announced plans to develop two more oil jetties to meet the import requirements of the country. The jetties will handle large vessels of 65,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) and 80,000 DWT respectively, with a depth of 13 metres. They will also enhance the port’s capacity and will reduce vessels’ waiting period. According to the port authority, jetty no. 7 will be operational by September 2022 and jetty no. 8 will be operational by April 2023. Currently, the port handles six oil jetties with a capacity of 12 million metric tonnes per annum.
