PLF and installed capacity

The national plant load factor (PLF) registered a decline from 69.9 per cent in 2012-13 to 58.8 per cent in 2021-22. Across the central, state and private sectors, the PLF stood at 69.7 per cent, 54.5 per cent and 53.6 per cent respectively during 2021-22.

The total installed power generation capacity stood at 399 GW as of March 2022. Thermal power accounted for 59 per cent of the total capacity, followed by renewables, hydel and nuclear. In terms of sectors, the private sector dominated with a 49 per cent share followed by the state (26 per cent) and central (25 per cent) sectors.
