Power generation recorded a compound annual growth rate of 4.9 per cent to reach 1,484 BUs in 2021-22 from 964 BUs in 2012-13. Thermal generation accounted for 75 per cent of the total in 2021-22, while renewable accounted for 12 per cent.

The year 2021-22 saw a capacity addition of 17,345 MW, higher than the 12,044 MW added in 2020-21. In 2021-22, capacity addition from renewables stood at 15,452 MW followed by thermal (1,381 MW) and hydro (513 MW).
