The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 195 billion to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in its state budget for financial year 2022-23. This is around Rs 45 billion higher than the previous financial year’s allocation of Rs 150 billion. The state aims to accomplish the twin objectives of effective water management and provision of pure drinking water in water-scarce regions in the state. The state has also set a target for setting up water purification plants based on ultrafiltration technology in 28,041 schools across 14 districts under the Chief Minister R.O. Drinking Water Scheme. The state is giving priority to water, quality sanitation and good hygiene, which are the major determinants of health and nutrition levels.
