Foundation stone laid for the construction of Guwahati Gateway Ferry Terminal

The chief minister of Assam has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Guwahati Gateway Ferry Terminal, which will be built at a cost of about Rs 2.89 billion. The government has allotted the project to Larsen & Toubro and work on the terminal is expected to be completed within 24 months. Further, smaller versions of such modular terminals will be set up in different parts of the state. The minister flagged off two catamarans during the day, each having a capacity of 100 passengers and 50 motorbikes. So far, the government has launched 10 catamaran services, eight in Guwahati and two in Majuli, while 10 more catamaran services are on the anvil. In addition, there are plans to set up passenger elevators at different points along the bank of the Brahmaputra river.
