Delhi airport launches green transportation programme

The Delhi airport has launched its green transportation programme, un­der which it has decided to introduce electric vehicles on the airside in a phased manner. In the first phase, the airport will launch 62 electric vehic­les for its airside operations, which will help in reducing approximately 1,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually. These vehicles will be inducted within three to four months. In addition, the airport will install high voltage and fast-charging stations at strategic locations to meet the re­quirements of these vehicles and other airport stakeholders. Delhi airport has recently introduced personalised baggage tags, enabled by radio frequency identification technology. They will give passengers real-time updates on their check-in luggage, including which belt it is on and its time of arrival in the terminal. Reportedly, the BAGG TRAX tags will soon be comm­ercially launched for flyers at the Delhi airport.
