AAI undertakes construction work of a new terminal building at Veer Savarkar International Airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has started the construction work of a new terminal building at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair. The new building is being constructed to handle the increasing passenger traffic at the airport. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 7.07 billion. The new terminal building has a total built up area of 40,837 square km and will be capable of handling 1,200 passengers during peak hours in a day and 4 million passengers in a year. The design of the terminal will be a bell-shaped structure depicting sea and islands. The terminal will also have 100 per cent natural lighting for 12 hours a day that will be achieved by skylights along the roof. More than 80 per cent of the work has been completed and the project is set to be completed by October 2022.
