TRAI starts pilot study at Deendayal Port for deploying 5G

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), in association with the Deendayal Port Authority, has launched a pilot project named “Fifth Generation Small Cell and Aerial Fiber Deployment Using Deendayal Port Street Furniture”. This pilot will help in understanding the challenges in 5G small cell deployment at Indian ports. Small cell equipment uses higher frequency spectrum to provide ultra-high broadband speeds and is placed closer to the user in order to provide quick responses to user requests. Street furniture includes electric poles, bus stands and traffic lights. Ports, using these highly reliable 5G networks, will be able to launch enterprise solutions, which in turn will help them compete with the best international ports.
