Indigo has become the first airline in India to land an aircraft using the GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN) system. An ATR-72 aircraft was landed at Rajasthan’s Kishangarh airport on April 27, 2022 using GAGAN, which has been developed by the Airports Authority of India and the Indian Space Research Organisation. GAGAN will help the Indian aviation sector by providing vertical and lateral guidance when an aircraft approaches the runway for landing, reducing flight delays, saving fuel, improving flight safety and modernising airspace.
