NITI Aayog releases State Energy and Climate Index-Round I

NITI Aayog has released the State Energy and Climate Index (SECI)-Round I, which will help states and union territories (UTs) plan better policies and manage their energy resources efficiently. The index rates the states ba­s­ed on six criteria – discom performance; energy access, af­fordability and reliability; clean energy initiatives; energy efficiency; environmental su­s­tai­n­ability; and new initiatives. The parameters are sub­divided into 27 indicators. States and UTs. They have been segregated into three categories: larger stat­es, smaller states and UTs, depending on their size and geographical variations. In the category of lar­ger states, Gujarat has topped the SECI-Round I, followed by Kerala and Punjab. In the smaller states category, Goa was the best-performing state, followed by Tripura and Manipur. Mean­while, among UTs, Chandigarh, Del­hi, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Ha­veli are the front runners in the country.
