MMRDA revises plan for Rajiv Gandhi Chowk-Temghar stretch of Mumbai metro Line 5

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has revised the plan for the 3 km long Rajiv Gandhi Chowk-Temghar stretch of the Mumbai Metro Phase II Line 5 Project (Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Thane). It has decided to build an underground metro line for the same owing to the presence of commercial and residential structures. The cost of the project is likely to increase by Rs 17.27 billion. Meanwhile, about 50.7 per cent of work has been completed on the Thane-Bhiwadi stretch of the project. Line 5 of the Mumbai metro project involves the development of a 24.9 km long metro rail system, entirely elevated, connecting Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan in Maharashtra.
